Website - Statement of Intent




Website

In the making of my working website, I wish to apply conventions found in music videos and website design to intertextually connect to the audience and provide the expected website experience. This ‘house style’ is found using a conventionally laid out website with a menu bar, at the top of the website, linking to ‘Home' ‘music’, ‘tour’ and ‘merch’ with various ‘social media’ icons. The colour of the text throughout the website will link to the text used in my music video through its being pink and standing against a contrasting background. My intention with the social media platform is to connect the artist and fans allowing the audience to feel as if they helped in the creation of the artist’s career, videos and songs. It will reach my target audience in the 16-30 bracket that have grown up using technology as it acts as a tool to promote music, increasing the number of fans and boosting sales of upcoming releases. This conforms to the function of the website, to connect the audience and the artist. This is done by updating fans on tour dates and the publicising of their new work to sell music.

In my design I wish to use a mix of bold sans-serif fonts and serif fonts that connote to both their mainstream and alternative music whilst using my design to link to the artist through a bright colour palette that links to their music videos and style. I want to include an updatable merchandise store that creates a connection between the performer and audience with the ‘store’ section being a modern institutional standard that provides revenue for the artist and the label, in my case being Universal Music. By creation of this merchandise section I will make a link between the website and the video as I have created an album cover that uses a still from the video. This album cover is featured on the merchandise and creates synergy between the video and the website. I will take pictures for the website supposedly taken from prior music videos, take pictures of things that the artist is doing and incorporate photos that incorporate stylistic elements like architecture. This connotes to the performer’s artistry and colourful style of music and uses an audio/visual link to a behind the scenes look at the music video which creates synergy between all the artist’s work.

As the website is constantly updating, at the end of its creation its layout and design will only act as a snapshot of its development as due to industry standards it would be constantly updated using new logos, colour schemes and layouts that provide attention to the newest aspects of the artists career, for example, a new song or music video. Also, ideas such as the website being updated throughout its life through updates on 'tour dates' and 'upcoming music' will create brand synergy as the link between all their products that they release acts as a solid representation of their brand. The two pages being showcased are the ‘Home’ and ‘Music’ pages which consist of the music video, audio visual and various other details about the artist.
