Intertextual References
I wanted to use Casablanca as an intertextual reference for my video as I believed it showed a contrast between a healthy and loving relationship where two characters love each other unconditionally and a relationship, in my video, where the relationship becomes sour and violent.
I decided to use a 'The Usual Suspects' reference through the smashing of a mug with exactly the same shot type and angle. This I believe would be stimulating to my intertextually knowledgeable target audience.

As 'The 400 Blows' is such a classic film I decided to incorporate its famous final shot as it is thematically similar to the one found in my video. The boy is caught between land and sea, between past and future, similar to my character who recounts the entire story of the video whilst he sits by the ocean staring out at the water.
